A framework for giving critique that people want

Be specific, be kind, be on time. In that order.

Specific beats nice

Vague praise is worse than silence. 'This is great' tells the person nothing. 'The second paragraph is the strongest — it earned the turn in the third' tells them what to do more of.

On time beats perfect

Critique three days late is critique of a different piece of work. The work has moved on. Say the imperfect thing today rather than the perfect thing on Friday.
