Writing clearly is designing thinking

Every muddled sentence I write is a muddled thought. The sentence is the symptom.

The draft test

If I can't write the thing in plain English in one paragraph, I don't understand it yet. The fix isn't better writing — it's more thinking.

Why designers especially

Every artifact we ship carries an implicit argument. If the argument is fuzzy, the design will be too. Writing is the cheapest way to find out.
